Birds provide the soundtrack to my life.  There is nothing like the song of a Carolina Wren to brighten up the day.  The Robins that nest on and around your house provide endless entertainment and drama, especially when the fledglings abandon the nest a week or two before they can fly, hopping around the yard while both parents try to keep predators away.  Speaking of drama, there's nothing to rival the competition that ensues each spring when migratory Ospreys return to their nesting grounds only to renew the age old rivalry with the year round resident Bald Eagles.  The Montagues and Capulets have nothing on these guys.

Birds come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colors.  Some even look like prehistoric flying creatures.  They are also everywhere, which means that one can take bird pictures almost anyplace, at any time of the year.  Of course, in spring when the nesting ritual resumes it is particularly entertaining with ample opportunity for pictures.

Sadly, many bird species are in decline due to loss of habitat and other man-made challenges.  It's a terrible feeling having to pick up a dead bird that just tried to fly through your picture glass window.
